The ratings for The Office took a nosedive in Seasons 8 and 9, which probably had something to do with Michael’s departure. So, that’s why the show was only given a couple more seasons before it was axed - because NBC didn’t renew Steve Carell’s contract. Yup, that’s the real reason he left.
