Wow! That’s pretty cool. A mile is actually derived from the Latin “mille passus”, meaning one thousand paces. So, a mile was originally 1,000 Roman strides - two paces each. But in 1592, the English Parliament made it official and standardized it to eight furlongs - that’s 660 feet!
