Why Is A Shilling Called A Bob? [Solved]
Bob – It’s been a hot topic of discussion for ages, but no one knows exactly where the name came from. We do know that it was used to refer to shillings in the late 1700s. According to Brewer’s 1870 Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, it could be related to ‘Bawbee’, which was slang for a half-penny back in the 16th-19th centuries.
