Why Do The Dutch Have Weird Last Names? [Solved]
Well, it looks like the Dutch really took their new names to heart! According to genealogist Rick van der Wielen, they had a tradition of using a patronymic system. Basically, the first son would get his dad’s first name as his last name and the other kids would get whatever was left over from their grandpa, great-grandpa and so on. Pretty cool!
